For many families, the holidays are about getting together with relatives and friends. But as COVID-19 surges again with new variants of the virus, children younger than 5 years old are not yet eligible for the vaccine. If you'll be celebrating with unvaccinated children and other higher-risk loved ones, here's how to help keep COVID risk to a minimum. The holidays are often a joyful time. But as the stress of the pandemic continues, many kids are struggling emotionally. And with more than 140,000 U.S. children having lost a parent or caregiver to COVID, many are grieving. Check in with your child often and watch for signs they may need more support. Also, read these tips on how to talk about mental health concerns with your child and their pediatrician.  Read Books and Make Connections 

The winter holidays are a great time to share books with your child. As you read stories together, ask questions about the characters’ feelings and connect them to children’s own experiences. (“How do you think the bunny feels? Have you ever felt like that?”) This is great to do with kids ages 2 to 5 years old.
